Serious acute infections (IV DIBI) include antibiotic resistant infections (AMRI) and sepsis. Extensive literature connects free iron to infections and sepsis, and sepsis was recently shown to feature underlying iron dysregulation (Brandtner et al. Journal of Intensive Care (2020) 8:76).
